Architectural Photography presents itself with specific equipment needs and skills that Scott S. Smith has acquired over the past twelve years.  He specializes in lighting interiors (both residential and commercial) and capturing stunning exterior views of buildings, dwellings, and homes. He has worked with many home builders, contractors, interior designers, architects, and shelter publications.

Before the days of digital photography high end architectual images were always taken with large format cameras and sheet film. Typically this method is precise and beautiful yet slow and costly because of processing and scanning each exposed sheet of film. While still providing services using a view camera when applicable, Scott has moved away from this system and perfected the art of high end digital architectural photography for both residential and commercial applications. With high end digital cameras and specialized perspective control lenses Scott can obtain stunning distortion free digital images while previewing VIA laptop computer on location. This method speeds up the shooting on location and allows clients, stylists, and editors accurate and precise viewing and image preview. With the digital medium Scott can deliver files quickly and effieciently, skipping the lab, scanning processes. He embraced the Macintosh (Apple) computer platform in 1995 and has since become an expert in digital post production, image processing and web (FTP) delivery.

Lightining an interior space for digital image capture has also changed since the digital revolution. Scott utilizes high powered strobe lighting with quick/intense bursts of light to ensure accuarate color representation and minimum grian (noise). Scott has photographed countless interiors both residential and commercial and strives to produce well lit, accurate, artistic, and natural lighting. His techniques allow him to capture award winning images that showcase the natural or ambient lighting of interior spaces while capturing precise details in a natural and believable style. Scott states: "My philosophy of architectural interior lighting is not to completly overpower the architectural lighting present in a space but to capture it's ambiance. It is important that an image of a space captures the unique mood of that space, this means augmenting existing lighting/windows etc. in a precise balance while maintaining believable shadows/highlights. Often I seam to work very hard to make an image seam as though a viewer is simply seeing it with their own eyes."
