A view Camera Portfolio of Florida Landscapes by Scott S. Smith

Artist Statement: The woodlands and trees of the Florida landscape are a subtle beauty; one must slow down and view the details to truly realize the spleander that is Florida. The priarie's and oaks of central Florida often give way to Cypress swamps, natural springs, and creekside wetland stands. Florida is an interesting place and a challange to photograph, because many of it's gretest features are so often overshadowed by the many miles of beaches, water, and sunshine. To photograph this series of images I chose to use a view camera which exposes a 4 by 5 inch negative through a seemingly old fashioned bellows system. While this camera is cumbersome, and fully manual it allows me to slow down and connect with the landscape around me. I hope that this group of image will intrique the viewer to go for a walk in the woods and look around them.
